Last week we were delighted to attend the Payments Awards 2014 with our friends from Greggs and PayPal.
Arriving at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, we were greeted by the cream of the payments industry crop and it was great to see so many familiar faces from the wider industry coming together. Stand-up comedian Jo Caulfield was on stage to host the event and started the evening off with a raft of payment related comedy.
From the outset, competition was fierce. Companies such as Starbucks, Barclaycard and Zapp were all listed in award categories, with trophies awarded for online and mobile payments as well as payments and contactless solutions. We all had our fingers crossed as the awards began:
First up was the Engagement and Loyalty Scheme of the Year. We had entered the awards alongside Greggs. We began working with Greggs early in 2014 on ‘Greggs Rewards’ which involved Eagle Eye Solutions working in partnership with Greggs to develop a loyalty and rewards section of the Greggs app designed to give Greggs customers:
- Rewards and incentives for repeat purchase
- The option of making payments using a mobile device
- A digital stamp card
- Offers and rewards redeemable at point of sale
Greggs Rewards also functions as a management tool. By allowing customers to pay and redeem rewards through a single scan of their smartphone, Greggs is able to obtain invaluable insight into customer behaviour from every sale made. These insights extracted by the Eagle Eye Air platform are used to assist the food-on-the-go retailer in business wide decisions and campaigns.
The app also functions as a mobile payment platform as well as a marketing tool for Greggs. Through a single scan of a customer’s smartphone at the point of sale, customers are able to pay for their items through either their prepaid wallet or PayPal. The scheme was a remarkable success and we were all over the moon when it won at the awards!
Whilst we were busy celebrating back at the table, we had a second bit of good news. Eagle Eye and Greggs had also scooped the overall winner award!
Official thanks to our friends at Greggs and to the Eagle Eye team who worked hard to produce such a fantastic programme.
